U8
U8,Mite , mini mite or Red White and Blue.
The WCYHA Board of Directors approved the adoption of USA Hockey’s American Development Model (ADM) for the Mini- Mite (U6) and Mite (U8) levels. At these levels, ADM has a cross-ice focus. The “Team placement” process will be very informal and involve on-ice coaches categorizing the overall level into thirds identified by Red, White and Blue “teams”. The primary focus in the 8 & Under Program is introducing the fundamentals and skill development while making it fun and developing a passion for the game. The 8 & Under Program at WCYHA will continue to follow the ADM Model. Please visit the USA Hockey link for more information on the ADM at www.admkids.com/.
There is no pre-requisite to enroll in the Learn to Skate program prior to enrolling in the Mini-Mite or Mite levels.
The 8 & Under Program will set the foundation for the players' hockey development and prepare them to progress through the older age divisions (Squirt, PeeWee, Bantam, and high school)

THE NEW ADM 8U GUIDEBOOK
An Introduction to Red, White and Blue hockey
At its core, Red, White and Blue Hockey is high-performance training at 8U Mite. It is playing cross-ice games and conducting station-based practices and is designed to get the best out of each and every player. In this environment, a player’s activity level skyrockets because their engagement level increases, which leads to an increased skill set and love of the game. Drills are designed to focus on multiple skills and situations, increasing time with the puck and situational repetition. The goalies are also more involved in the drills because they get more shots to stop. It’s been proven that kids who begin their hockey training in this environment develop a better foundation of skills and hockey instincts, and enjoy the game more. It’s because of this emphasis on fun and development that we’re asking associations, teams, coaches and parents to include station-based practices and cross-ice games at the 8U Mite level. Doing so is an important part of the development process at this age.
